About the black travertine — genuine natural stone with a matte black surface finish

The backplate of this sconce is made from genuine travertine stone. To create a deep, even black aesthetic, the stone surface is finished with a matte black coating — rather than left in its natural off-white state. This is an intentional design choice: the weight, density, and natural pore structure of genuine travertine are preserved, while the surface colour is controlled. The entire stone presents a consistent matte black — this is exactly as it was designed to be.

Natural travertine — formed by geological processes

Travertine is formed in the natural environment through thousands of years of complex physical and chemical processes. Even beneath the black surface, the pore distribution and stone characteristics of each piece remain entirely unique.

This ended up being much more than a finishing touch for our setup for our setup.

From a practical point of view, i was a little unsure before ordering, but the room made sense once this went in for our setup. It made the room feel more complete in a very natural way.

After seeing it in context, it gives the living room a clear center without crowding it once everything else was in place. Nothing about it feels out of place.

As part of our everyday setup, i like how much more complete the stair landing feels now now that the room is finished. The light feels comfortable for the way we use this area.
