With everything else left alone, the stair landing has a clearer focal point without feeling busy.

With the other pieces doing less, the room can stay simple while the chandelier carries enough character on its own.

I kept second-guessing the choice, and now the chandelier feels less risky and more like the obvious choice. Most days, the chandelier fits naturally into the way the entry functions.
