About the black travertine — genuine natural stone with a matte black surface finish

The base of this ceiling light is made from genuine travertine stone. To create a deep, even black aesthetic, the stone surface is finished with a matte black coating — rather than left in its natural off-white state. This is an intentional design choice: the weight, density, and natural pore structure of genuine travertine are preserved, while the surface colour is controlled. The entire stone presents a consistent matte black — this is exactly as it was designed to be.

Travertine is formed in the natural environment through thousands of years of complex physical and chemical processes. Even beneath the black surface, the pore distribution and stone characteristics of each piece remain entirely unique.

At a glance, the home office has a clearer focal point without feeling busy. As the home office becomes part of the day, the home office is nicer to spend time in without feeling newly decorated. I wanted a piece that would make the home office feel better without creating extra visual clutter, and this does. On an ordinary morning, the room still works the same way, it just feels more pleasant. In softer evening light, the room feels warmer in mood, not busier.

Even when the room is a little messy, I notice the ceiling light in passing more than I expected. With the room kept fairly simple, the design feels distinctive but still easy to mix with what I already own.
