About the black travertine — genuine natural stone with a matte black surface finish

The head of this spotlight is made from genuine travertine stone. To create a deep, even black aesthetic, the stone surface is finished with a matte black coating — rather than left in its natural off-white state. This is an intentional design choice: the weight, density, and natural pore structure of genuine travertine are preserved, while the surface colour is controlled. The entire stone presents a consistent matte black — this is exactly as it was designed to be.

Natural travertine — formed by geological processes

Travertine is formed in the natural environment through thousands of years of complex physical and chemical processes. Even beneath the black surface, the pore distribution and stone characteristics of each piece remain entirely unique.

I could not tell from the photos how it would land, and the wall light feels much more natural in the room than it did on screen. When we are winding down, the stair landing feels calmer.

For this room, the wall light adds presence without making the room feel heavy.

What works visually is that the wall light gives the room structure without dominating it. Late in the day, the living room feels more inviting. At night, the wall light gives the room a more settled feel. I left the rest of the room alone, and the design is noticeable up close and calmer from a distance.
