About the black travertine — genuine natural stone with a matte black surface finish

The outer disc of this pendant is made from genuine travertine stone. To create a deep, even black aesthetic, the stone surface is finished with a matte black coating — rather than left in its natural off-white state. This is an intentional design choice: the weight, density, and natural pore structure of genuine travertine are preserved, while the surface colour is controlled. The entire stone presents a consistent matte black — this is exactly as it was designed to be.

Natural travertine — formed by geological processes

Travertine is formed in the natural environment through thousands of years of complex physical and chemical processes. Even beneath the black surface, the pore distribution and stone characteristics of each piece remain entirely unique.

When I am not thinking about the design at all, I still notice that the dining area is nicer to spend time in without feeling newly decorated. From a styling point of view, the pendant stands out without making everything else compete.

After seeing the whole setup together, the pendant gives the room structure without dominating it. Kept against a quieter background, the piece gives the room personality without making it feel curated for a photo. Later at night, the entry has a nicer rhythm. What has lasted beyond the first impression is that it feels like a natural part of the room now. The pendant feels like part of the architecture rather than another thing to manage.

I could not tell from the photos how it would land, and the pendant feels less risky and more like the obvious choice. Late in the day, the pendant gives the room a more settled feel. From a styling point of view, the piece gives the room personality without making it feel curated for a photo. In real life, the room still works the same way, it just feels more pleasant.
