About the black travertine — genuine natural stone with a matte black surface finish

The shade of this wall lamp is made from genuine travertine stone. To create a deep, even black aesthetic, the stone surface is finished with a matte black coating — rather than left in its natural off-white state. This is an intentional design choice: the weight, density, and natural pore structure of genuine travertine are preserved, while the surface colour is controlled. The entire stone presents a consistent matte black — this is exactly as it was designed to be.

Natural travertine — formed by geological processes

Travertine is formed in the natural environment through thousands of years of complex physical and chemical processes. Even beneath the black surface, the pore distribution and stone characteristics of each piece remain entirely unique.

From the hall, the wall light adds presence without making the room feel heavy. I expected to like it, but the room handles the design better than I thought it would.

The room makes more sense to me because the wall light makes the room feel considered rather than decorated. I thought I might need to redesign around it, but the scale of the idea feels right once it is part of the whole room. In everyday use, the bedroom is nicer to spend time in without feeling newly decorated. As a design choice, the piece gives the room personality without making it feel curated for a photo. I like that the wall light feels useful and decorative at the same time.

Late in the day, the entry feels especially comfortable. Online, I worried it might be too much; in person, the overall presence feels easier than I expected.
