About the black travertine — genuine natural stone with a matte black surface finish

The shade of this wall lamp is made from genuine travertine stone. To create a deep, even black aesthetic, the stone surface is finished with a matte black coating — rather than left in its natural off-white state. This is an intentional design choice: the weight, density, and natural pore structure of genuine travertine are preserved, while the surface colour is controlled. The entire stone presents a consistent matte black — this is exactly as it was designed to be.

Travertine is formed in the natural environment through thousands of years of complex physical and chemical processes. Even beneath the black surface, the pore distribution and stone characteristics of each piece remain entirely unique.

What I see now is that the wall light adds presence without making the room feel heavy.

Once the room is quiet, the reading corner feels more inviting.

As a design choice, the piece gives the room personality without making it feel curated for a photo. On an ordinary morning, the design is easy to live with instead of demanding attention. I expected the room to need more adjustment, yet the room handles the design better than I thought it would. From the hall, the empty areas around the furniture make more sense.
