On ordinary weeknights, the front entry has a nicer rhythm. I was careful not to over-style the room, and the piece gives the room personality without making it feel curated for a photo. In everyday use, the front entry is nicer to spend time in without feeling newly decorated. I thought this would be a small update, but the outdoor light made a bigger difference to the front entry than I expected.

I would not have guessed from the photos that the outdoor light is easier to live with than the photos made me think.

I stopped overthinking the choice once I realized that the outdoor light has become part of the routine rather than a special feature. Friends have said the room feels different even when they cannot immediately explain why. I went back and forth on whether the room needed something this distinctive, though it has grown on me in daily use.
