About the black travertine — genuine natural stone with a matte black surface finish

The frame of this ceiling lamp is made from genuine travertine stone. To create a deep, even black aesthetic, the stone surface is finished with a matte black coating — rather than left in its natural off-white state. This is an intentional design choice: the weight, density, and natural pore structure of genuine travertine are preserved, while the surface colour is controlled. The entire stone presents a consistent matte black — this is exactly as it was designed to be.

Natural travertine — formed by geological processes

Travertine is formed in the natural environment through thousands of years of complex physical and chemical processes. Even beneath the black surface, the pore distribution and stone characteristics of each piece remain entirely unique.

For the look we were after, this ceiling light works with what we already owned surprisingly well, which is what I wanted.

In this part of the house, this ceiling light feels much more natural than I expected, even on completely ordinary days. I was worried it might compete with the other pieces, but it blends in much more naturally in person. This ceiling light made the room feel finished without asking for a major redesign. It has held my attention without getting tiring.

With the hallway otherwise left alone, the overall design makes the whole setup feel more complete, especially in the evening. The lighting feels more deliberate now, but still comfortable for everyday use. I like the way the space feels at night now, especially on quiet evenings at home. It changed the mood of the room without forcing me to change the furniture around it.
