About the black travertine — genuine natural stone with a matte black surface finish

The body of this wall light is made from genuine travertine stone. To create a deep, even black aesthetic, the stone surface is finished with a matte black coating — rather than left in its natural off-white state. This is an intentional design choice: the weight, density, and natural pore structure of genuine travertine are preserved, while the surface colour is controlled. The entire stone presents a consistent matte black — this is exactly as it was designed to be.

Natural travertine — formed by geological processes

Travertine is formed in the natural environment through thousands of years of complex physical and chemical processes. Even beneath the black surface, the pore distribution and stone characteristics of each piece remain entirely unique.

For the reading area, the overall design looks considered without feeling staged, which suits our home.

Looking at the reading area as a whole, the new addition brings the room together without doing too much, and I like that balance. The look is slightly bolder than I pictured, but it worked once the rest of the room settled around it.

In the reading area, this choice makes the whole setup feel more complete, even on completely ordinary days. I did not realize how much the evening mood was missing until this was in place. It added presence to the reading area without making the space feel busy. The longer it is here, the more natural it feels.
