About the black travertine — genuine natural stone with a matte black surface finish

The cone shade of this pendant is made from genuine travertine stone. To create a deep, even black aesthetic, the stone surface is finished with a matte black coating — rather than left in its natural off-white state. This is an intentional design choice: the weight, density, and natural pore structure of genuine travertine are preserved, while the surface colour is controlled. The naturally pitted character of each piece is authentic — this is exactly as it was designed to be.

Natural travertine — formed by geological processes

Travertine is formed in the natural environment through thousands of years of complex physical and chemical processes. Even beneath the black surface, the pore distribution and stone characteristics of each piece remain entirely unique.

I kept the rest of the breakfast area almost the same, and this still changed the balance.

The cone shape is distinctive, but the overall piece still feels easy to live with. The longer it is here, the more natural it feels. It makes the room feel finished without making it feel staged. I notice the difference most when the rest of the room is quiet and the light is on.

The kitchen feels more inviting in the evening without becoming overly dramatic. That balance was exactly what I was hoping for. The photos made it look more formal than it feels in our home, which was a pleasant surprise.
