About the black travertine — genuine natural stone with a matte black surface finish

The travertine elements of this pendant are made from genuine stone. To create a deep, even black aesthetic, the stone surface is finished with a matte black coating — rather than left in its natural off-white state. This is an intentional design choice: the weight, density, and natural pore structure of genuine travertine are preserved, while the surface colour is controlled. The entire stone presents a consistent matte black — this is exactly as it was designed to be.

Natural travertine — formed by geological processes

Travertine is formed in the natural environment through thousands of years of complex physical and chemical processes. Even beneath the black surface, the pore distribution and stone characteristics of each piece remain entirely unique.

The look is slightly bolder than I pictured, though it has settled into the kitchen well; the room still feels relaxed. It fits our routine well and makes the room feel a little more cared for. I was aiming for something very quiet, and this has a bit more personality than that, but I have come to like the contrast. I was worried this pendant might compete with the rest of the room, but it actually gives everything around it a clearer place. I would make the same choice again.

The atmosphere is warmer and more lived in once the light is on, without making the space feel overly styled. This pendant gave the bedroom the focal point it was missing without making the rest of the room feel secondary. It gave the room the lift I was hoping for.

I do like the travertine detail up close, but what matters more is how naturally the whole pendant works in the room. We had family over recently, and this was one of the few things in the room people actually asked about.
