About the black travertine — genuine natural stone with a matte black surface finish

The cylindrical shade of this pendant is made from genuine travertine stone. To create a deep, even black aesthetic, the stone surface is finished with a matte black coating — rather than left in its natural off-white state. This is an intentional design choice: the weight, density, and natural pore structure of genuine travertine are preserved, while the surface colour is controlled. The entire stone presents a consistent matte black — this is exactly as it was designed to be.

Travertine is formed in the natural environment through thousands of years of complex physical and chemical processes. Even beneath the black surface, the pore distribution and stone characteristics of each piece remain entirely unique.

The best part is how normal it feels in the room now, in a good way, and it feels more settled every time I see it. The travertine is a nice detail in person without becoming the only reason the piece works. The overall room looks more put together now, even though we barely changed anything else. It gave the room the lift I was hoping for.

The design reads clearly, but it does not overpower the furniture around it, and it has been easy to live with since then. It has a little more visual presence than I pictured, so I simplified the area around it, but I like the result.
