About the black travertine — genuine natural stone with a matte black surface finish

The body of this table lamp is made from genuine travertine stone. To create a deep, even black aesthetic, the stone surface is finished with a matte black coating — rather than left in its natural off-white state. This is an intentional design choice: the weight, density, and natural pore structure of genuine travertine are preserved, while the surface colour is controlled. The entire stone presents a consistent matte black — this is exactly as it was designed to be.

Travertine is formed in the natural environment through thousands of years of complex physical and chemical processes. Even beneath the black surface, the pore distribution and stone characteristics of each piece remain entirely unique.

By the end of the first week, this table lamp already felt settled into the space; nothing else needed to change. The design reads clearly, but it does not overpower the furniture around it. This table lamp feels less like decor now and more like something that simply belongs in the room. The travertine is a nice detail in person without becoming the only reason the piece works. Friends who have seen the room before noticed the difference, even though nothing else had really changed.

From across the room, this table lamp gives the space enough structure to feel complete.

I like that it adds interest without forcing the rest of the room into the same style, which keeps the whole space feeling relaxed. At night, the room has more depth and feels much less flat than it did before. I noticed the travertine more once it was in the room, but the overall balance is what I ended up appreciating most. I have no urge to replace it with something else, which says a lot.
