About the black travertine — genuine natural stone with a matte black surface finish

The shade of this sconce is made from genuine travertine stone. To create a deep, even black aesthetic, the stone surface is finished with a matte black coating — rather than left in its natural off-white state. This is an intentional design choice: the weight, density, and natural pore structure of genuine travertine are preserved, while the surface colour is controlled. The entire stone presents a consistent matte black — this is exactly as it was designed to be.

Natural travertine — formed by geological processes

Travertine is formed in the natural environment through thousands of years of complex physical and chemical processes. Even beneath the black surface, the pore distribution and stone characteristics of each piece remain entirely unique.

What changed most is that the entry feels finished but still relaxed. In the early evening, the entry feels calmer. I appreciate it most because the room feels better without asking for any extra effort. I like the contrast it creates; the design has personality without dictating the rest of the room. What I see now is that the room has a stronger visual center.

By evening, the wall light gives the room a more settled feel.

Standing back from it, the reading corner has more definition without losing its simplicity. I appreciate it most after sunset because the reading corner feels more inviting. The overall presence is a bit more noticeable than I anticipated, though it has grown on me in daily use.
